The GIS Center Team Celebrating Their General Director Retirement

On the 5th of July 2012, the GIS Center team had given a party in honor of Ms. Azza Shawarby, General Director of the GIS Center retirement to sketch out their appreciations of her efforts along 12 years since the establishment of the GIS Center and 34 years of experience within the Ministry of the State for Antiquities Affairs (MSA).    

She was working at the MSA Information Center when the negotiations started with the Finnish Institute for Environment to set a combined Project “Egyptian Antiquities Information System” (EAIS) to help in protecting the Archaeological Sites in Egypt using the GIS. Then she is assigned to be the National Director of the EAIS project.

She had the major role in all achievements which happened in the GIS Center along the years of Finnish Egyptian cooperation through EAIS that succeeded for seven years which led to new cooperation for three years through twinning institutional cooperation instrument (ICI) project.  

The GIS Center team missed her dynamic personal and her kindness, but they wishing her a very long life and hope that she can accomplish all of what she needs.

Ms. Azza El-Khouly, Director Assistant at the GIS Center, who has accounting background, assumed the position of General Director followed Ms. Shawarby. She will continue to focus the GIS Center’s efforts on documenting and maintaining data vital for the protection and management of the cultural heritage of Egypt.
